Let's get something clear: the Death card almost never means death.
I've been reading tarot for twenty years, and I can count on one hand the clients who didn't flinch when Death hit the table. Then we talk about what it actually means, and most of them go quiet. They already know what needs to end.
On 23 October the Sun moves into Scorpio, and Scorpio's card in the tarot is Death. So for the next month, the question isn't "what's coming?" It's "what am I refusing to let die?"
What Scorpio season asks of you
Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, power and transformation. It doesn't do surface level. This is the season when old feelings come back, secrets come out and the things you said you were "fine" about want a proper look.
It can feel heavy. It's not a punishment. It's an edit.
What the Death card really means
Death is card XIII of the Major Arcana. It shows endings, transitions and the clearing that has to happen before anything new can grow. The relationship that's been over for a year. The job you've outgrown. The version of yourself you keep performing because it's familiar.
Death doesn't take things from you. It shows you what's already gone, so you can stop pouring energy into it.
The Scorpio season spread
Shuffle while you ask yourself: What am I keeping alive out of habit, fear or guilt? Then lay out three cards.
1. What I'm holding on to. The thing, person, pattern or belief that's had its time.
2. Why I'm still holding on. Habit, fear or guilt. This card shows you which, and it may sting.
3. What grows when I let it go. The space, energy or self that's waiting on the other side.
Read the cards as a story, not three separate meanings. Card 2 is usually the honest one, so sit with it longest. Write down the first thing you feel, before you reach for the guidebook.
A few ways it can land
• Cups in position 1: often an emotional tie or a relationship you've kept going on autopilot.
• A court card in position 2: you may be holding on because of someone else's expectations, not your own.
• The Tower, the Star or Judgement in position 3: whatever you're scared to end is standing between you and something much bigger.
Tarot is radical self-honesty
At Black Salt Tarot I don't read to predict your future. I read to show you the truth you're already avoiding, so you can choose what to do about it. Scorpio season is the best time of year for that kind of reading.
